WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Billy Collins has been named the 11th U.S. poet laureate, Librarian of Congress James H. Billington has announced.

Performance poet Daphne Gottlieb is devoted to the fine art of provocation.Ý She is the author of Pelt, released by Odd Girls Press in June
1999.Ý Her work has been widely published in journals and anthologies, including "The Color of the Longest Day" (Fine Mess Press). In the
summer of 1999, she and poet Thea Hillman toured the United States on the "Hell on Heels" tour -- 23 readings in 28 days.Ý She has toured
with Sister Spit and was a member of the semifinalist team representing San Francisco's Mission District Team at the 1998 National Poetry
